All class fees include admission to Kawartha Yarn & Fibre Festival for 2019, and will allow you fast track entry to the event via a separate line for pre-paid admissions. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of your class to ensure you have time to find your classroom and get settled prior to the start.
Due to the limitations of the Eventbrite ticketing system, all materials fees will be paid directly to the instructors at the beginning of class, and have been outlined in the class description on Eventbrite. Please look for them mentioned in bold.

Patricia Gillies - Spinning with Luxury Fibres - 9:00 am - 1:00 PM - $100
Students will learn how to make a little luxury go a long way by using smart techniques to prepare, spin and finish luxury fibres such as angora, camel and yak. Workshop content includes tips and techniques for maximizing your investment through blending with such fibres as cotton, silk and wool, and a focus on the effects each brings to the blend.

Chandra Rice - Shibori Felting - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm - $40
Shibori felting is a wet felting method which uses small objects (like buttons, beads, or pebbles) or folding to add texture to woolen materials before it is felted. In this workshop, we’ll explore several techniques, learning how to work with roving, pre-felts, and knitted wool! Go home with three samples and tons of ideas!

Looking to up your knitting game? Silk is an amazing luxury fibre that adds shine, strength and drape to your finished items. Yarns with a high silk ratio need some special techniques to make them really stand out, but once you master it, you'll love knitting with it! Jane Steeves - Create your own Fibre Blends for Spinning - 9:30 am - 12:00 pm - $40
In this class we will create new fibre blends for spinning. This blending class will include different wools and exotic fibres as well as silks bamboo and other fun fibres to spin. Using hand carders in this class we will small batts and rolags for spinning on a wheel or drop spindles. We will also experiment by adding bits of colour to our fibre creations to add more fun to the blends of fibres we create.
Julia Bryant - Introduction to Tunisian Crochet - 9:30 am - 12:00 pm - $40
Learn the basic Tunisian crochet which is a complete marriage of crochet and knitting. The resulting fabric is a wonderful background for colour and beaded work. You will learn how to do colour inlay and add beads.
Rebecca Lamperd - Introduction to Spindle Spinning - 9:00 am - 1:00 pm - $50
In this class, participants will learn how to spin on a top and a bottom whorl spindle. You will use leaders for attaching yarn and you will also learn how to spin when a leader yarn isn't available. other introductory spindle topics will include how to wind your yarn into a neat cop and preparations for plying.

'My Favourite Things' is an ever-expanding treasury of knitting insight – shortcuts, refinements, best practices, inventions and neat little tips. There are so many ways to tweak our favourite pursuit to make it easier and better-constructed. The list is long, so we’ll practice as many as time allows and you’ll take the complete list home.
Christopher Walker - @cabinboyknits - Dyeing Yarn Naturally - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm - $50
In this class we will explore the beautiful ways in which plants can be used to dye yarn. Students will learn the process of natural dyeing and how to create long-lasting colours. We will use flowers from the garden and plants and trees from the forest, to make vibrant dye-baths. Students will gain the confidence to naturally dye yarn from beginning to end and will leave this class with a series of naturally dyed samples of yarn.

If you love knitted cables, but don’t love the less than pleasing look of the “wrong” side of your scarves, blankets, shawls, and cabled collars then you’ll love this class. You’ll create a sampler of reversible cables made 4 different ways. After this class, you’ll be prepared to confidently tackle reversible cable patterns and add them to your future projects. Learn how to read a reversible cable chart, too.

Back by popular demand! Have you ever purchased a beautiful skein of hand painted yarn just to have it look like mud when knitted? Understanding the dyer's approach to the dye pattern is the first step in maintaining the beauty of the yarn. The second step is transforming the yarn into a fabric that highlights the dye pattern. This workshop presents the basis of Gestalt fabric. Gestalt fabrics are considered as a whole and create an effect that amounts to more than the sum of the stitches, fiber, and color.

Carolyn Misener - Toe-Up Basics - Mini Ornament Make & Take - 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm - $40
The class teaches a basic toe up method of knitting a sock which can then be applied to regular size socks. Using magic loop the small 3” sock is cast on using the Turkish cast on method and a short row heel on a Mini Sock Ornament using worsted weight yarn and a 24” 4mm circular needle.

Interested in learning how to tip-toe into colour work knitting without having to manage a colour in each hand? Mosaic knitting is the answer you have been looking for! Loretta Moore - Introduction to Miniature Punch Needle - 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM - $40
In this workshop you will learn how to create a miniature masterpiece using a needle and embroidery thread. A Punch needle is an easy to use tool that opens up a delightful world of dimensional needle-art. It quickly and easily produces one-level or exciting three dimensional designs for many uses. Punch needle embroidery has a rich and varied history. It has been used to embellish clothing and to create beautiful works of art. Using a single strand of embroidery floss you can create a wonderful miniature "hooked" design.
Wendo Van Essen - 3D Needle Felted Tulips - 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm - $45
Students will learn the basics of needle felting and will use this new skill to make a 5 x 7" needle felt piece using a 3D technique in which a sea of tulips jump right out at you! Once you've got the basics of this addictive fibre art, the possibilities are endless!
Bethany Garner - A Warp to Dye For- 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm - $50
Students will come to the workshop with a pre-wound 100% cotton or cottolin warp, chained for easy-to-carry convenience. Each student will soak their cotton warp in soda ash in containers provided by the instructor, and stretch them onto plastic wrap atop a plastic covered table. During the workshop, students will be able to hand dye their own warp. Foam Brushing, hand pouring or dip dyeing are all possible techniques that will be demonstrated and used by the students for exciting results. This is a quick and easy techniques based workshop, and will surely provide beautiful warps for future weaving projects. A warp length of 3 yards minimum is suggested. Fun, and everyone is welcome.
